How much time should I give myself to plan my wedding?
If you are engaged, start planning right away! I do not believe in the timing they say in most sites and bridal magazines, time is of essence and you should treat it as such. There are some things that you should follow in a timely fashion, like ordering your invitations five to four months in advance; but when it comes to your finances you need to plan accordingly. For instance, average weddings can run about $25K-$30K depending on your guest and your particular taste in reception halls. For example, I make $400 a week and my fiancé makes about $600 a week. That is a thousand dollars a week, so together we bring in $4,000 a month. Let's us budget our expenses monthly, $1,500 for rent, $500 for food, $150 for utilities, $200 for cell phones, $400 for my babysitter, $100 in gas, $200 in going out money, $100 in misc. things; that is $3,150 a month. We have $850 a month that we can save, which comes up to $10,200 a year. In order for us to come up with $25k for a wedding we have to plan two years in advance. Most magazines that are giving a timetables are not looking at your finances. Book as soon as you can, open up a bank account just for your wedding. Cut back a little in expenses you can live without. Do not make finances an excuse not to plan a wedding. The further you can play your wedding and book your vendors the better off you are going to be.
